It began with a conversation between friends on a long roadtrip. We, Ralph an myself Majid, talked about the world we are leaving to our children and asked ourselves a simple question: How can we leave them a better world than the one we have today?
My answer was simple: Let’s plant as many trees as we can.
My friend replied, “One million and one.”
Why one extra? Because there will always be one more tree to plant.
A week later, another conversation between Thijs and myself, another roadtrip, helped shape the idea further. Southern Europe was a place to start, and the approach had to be about more than planting trees. We wanted to create diverse ecosystems where native trees, shrubs, and other plants could grow together and support biodiversity.
After discussing the idea with my wife, we decided to move to Spain in the summer of 2026 and turn this vision into action. During seven visits before our move, we met people who welcomed the idea and offered their support, including JoseMari from San Miguel de Pedroso and Javier from Nofuentes.
What began as a conversation was becoming a shared mission including Fabio who kindly volunteered to be the president of our organisation.
